AJISS Halifax Manager - Thales Canada
Richard Gravel is a retired naval officer, having completed a 35-year career in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Combat Systems Engineer; retired at navy Captain rank in 2014. Richard has recently been hired by Thales Canada, the first of Thales’ team in Halifax, as the AJISS (AOPS and JSS In-service Support) Halifax Manager. Richard’s more recent experiences include Naval Attaché to the USA in Washington, DC, Commanding Officer of Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Scott in the dockyard in Halifax, and Deputy Project Manager for the HALIFAX Class Modernization / Frigate Life Extension Project. These were preceded by a number of positions in Ottawa, Victoria and Halifax, as well as on exchange with the Royal Navy in the UK, with much of his time as a senior officer having been spent on the Halifax naval waterfront.
Since his retirement, Richard has run his own consulting business, providing primarily Business Development and bid submission support to Canadian and international clients. Richard holds a Bachelor of Computer Engineering, as well as a Masters of Defence Studies, both from the Royal Military College of Canada. Richard and his wife Sandy live in Wellington, Nova Scotia. They have three grown children.
