ACENET: Training Instructor

ACENET is seeking an instructor to develop and deliver training materials for researchers and industry professionals in advanced computing. This position will appeal to a self-motivated individual who is comfortable teaching participants with various skill levels and diverse backgrounds, both in an in-person and virtual setting, and is able to work successfully in a distributed environment with colleagues throughout Atlantic Canada.


Reporting to ACENET’s Training Coordinator, you will be an essential part of ACENET’s technical and operational team.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Train and upskill students, researchers and private industry professionals on advanced computing tools and methodologies.
  • Develop training materials in advanced computing and digital skills.
  • Develop course participant assessments to pave the way for the creation of certificates andmicrocredentials.
  • Support participants by providing technical assistance and virtual office hours.

Background and Skills

As the ideal candidate, you will have a university degree and some teaching experience in a higher education setting. You will have experience in creating course/presentation materials and assessments. A good grasp of R, Python, Machine Learning and/or any other programming language is essential. Additional expertise or experience teaching any of the following tools and concepts is considered an asset:

  • OpenRefine
  • Apache Hadoop
  • Natural language processing
  • Ansys
  • OpenMP and MPI programming
  • Data Analytics
  • Data Visualization

To succeed in this role you are interested and willing to learn new tools/concepts. You demonstrate experience and skill in communicating and interacting with participants from different backgrounds, education levels, skills and career stages. You have excellent organizational, analytical, and verbal and written communication skills in English (French is considered an asset). You work collaboratively, embrace challenges and are a problem solver who can come up with creative solutions when needed.

ACENET is a regional partner of the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, the organization responsible for coordinating infrastructure and activities required for advanced research computing (ARC), research data management (RDM) and research software (RS) in Canada.
