Commissionaires Canada: Veteran Support Officer

CNS is actively seeking a Veteran Support Officer (VSO) focusing on veteran attraction, recruitment and retention.

The selected candidate will be a results-driven individual with a strong work ethic, a “Can Do” attitude in everything they do, and be fully committed to CNS’s social mandate of providing meaningful employment to veterans and their families. In this role, you must enjoy managing multiple priorities, taking initiative, leading conversations, and working to meet strategic CNS veteran-based recruiting targets.

THE ROLE
Competition Number: CNS 2024-02-21
Location: Bedford CNS Head Office. Travel within/across Nova Scotia also required.
Salary: $25.00 – $30.00/hr
Working Hours: 3 days a week (24 hrs/week). Some weekend and/or overtime may also be required, and this role may develop into a full-time position.

The VSO will also work closely with our Talent Acquisition team on recruitment strategies, as well as helping create programs to provide successful veteran talent acquisition. You will be directly responsible for:

  • Targeted recruitment strategies for Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) veterans to meet CNS’ social mandate.
  • Screening candidates for eligibility, suitability, interviewing, and final selection.
  • Fostering robust relationships with veteran-based organizations, as well as coordinating/attending career fairs and community events that target veterans.
  • Ensuring our veteran recruitment process is optimized, efficient, and extremely successful, and which also provides an exceptional experience for all applicants.
  • Working closely with our Marketing & Communications team to create annual Marketing/Communications plans and materials that targets veteran communities.

Other Projects:

  • As a key CNS “Veteran-Advocate,” be responsible for meeting Key Performance Indicators/metrics, as well as compiling statistical data related to veteran attraction, recruitment, and retention.
  • In concert with our Talent Acquisition team, create other programs to assist veterans with transition from their CAF or RCMP service – e.g. Interview/Resume workshops, etc.
  • Assist further developing our CNS “Ambassador Program” by way of helping identify and select CNS employees to become CNS brand ambassadors.
  • Help assess our current “CNS Referral Program
  • Create program(s) that support regular feedback from CNS veterans, including Exit Interviews, Onboarding/Offboarding processes, etc.

WHO WE’RE SEEKING

Candidates must be:

  • Aged 19 or older.
  • A Permanent Resident of Canada or a Canadian Citizen.
  • Without a criminal record, for which a pardon has not been granted.
  • Able to provide fingerprints and complete a criminal record check.
  • Eligible to obtain a Reliability level, Government of Canada security clearance.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English (the ability to work in both official languages would be considered an asset).

 Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post-secondary education, augmented by three or more years of relevant experience. CNS will consider extensive related experience as a possible equivalency to post-secondary education.
  • Based on the nature of this role, preference will be given to veterans of the CAF or RCMP.
  • Experience in sourcing best-in-class talent using various recruitment channels and modern methodologies, including social media, resume mining, referral programs, networking, brand campaigns, and maintaining candidate pipelines.
  • Possessing a keen eye for detail and demonstrating exceptional professionalism when engaging with groups of various sizes/demographics.
  • Highly refined communication and collaboration skills – must be extremely comfortable with public speaking and conducting presentations.
  • Strong computer skills and aptitude in software such as Microsoft Office and recruiting/onboarding platforms. Experience with Bamboo HR will be considered an asset.
  • A valid Nova Scotia driver’s license is required, as travel within the province will be required.
  • Highly collaborative, solutions oriented, organized and be an independent worker.
