NordSpace’s vision is to develop Canada into a self-sufficient technology & manufacturing powerhouse in space & defence. The company’s strategy is to build a vertically integrated space manufacturing company to provide customers with a one-stop-shop to design, produce, integrate, launch and operate their space missions – all secured within Canada. NordSpace’s core division is currently developing sovereign orbital launch capabilities for dual use. Alongside this, the company is developing Spaceport Canada in NL to serve the needs of both NordSpace and other small/medium lift launch operators. Featuring conventional fuels, portable launch pads, and responsive launch capabilities, NordSpace is building a resilient, flexible, scalable and secure space launch infrastructure for all Canadians.
NordSpace serves the fast-growing space launch services segment, which is the physical gateway to access the broader global space economy. Primary customers for space launch include commercial operators, government & national defence agencies, and scientific research institutions that need to deploy satellites, cargo and other space systems into Low Earth Orbit & beyond. The global space launch market sat at US$14 billion in 2023 and is expected to reach US$41 billion by 2032. NordSpace will initially operate within the small-lift market segment with its Hadfield engines, capable of delivering up to 500 kg to Low Earth Orbit. This is ideal for launching satellite constellations and small spacecraft serving a wide variety of critical applications, including real-time monitoring for natural disaster management, national security, and arctic sovereignty, high-speed communications across remote regions, earth observation for agricultural, forestry & fishery purposes, and more. Canada needs to attain sovereign launch capabilities so that the spending from all these launch missions can be internalized and reinvested back into the Canadian economy.
