Halifax, N.S. – The Atlantic Canada Aerospace and Defence Association presented awards to AS WORKS (NL), KOGNITIV SPARK (NB), GLOBAL SPATIAL TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS INC. (NS) and SERCO CANADA INC. (NL) during the virtual ADS Expo Atlantic 2020 tradeshow held September 30 and October 1.
These Atlantic Canadian recipients were celebrated for their success and excellence in the aerospace, defence and security industries in four distinct categories – Innovation Leader - AS Works, Business Development Distinction – Kognitiv Spark, Most-Promising Start-up – Global Spatial Technology Solutions Inc. and Gender and Diversity Excellence – Serco Canada Inc.
The ACADA Team, our membership and partners extend heartfelt congratulations and its appreciation to the 2020 ACADA Industry Excellence Recognition Award recipients. The diversity and capacity of the industry capabilities within the region is reflected by these companies;
· AS Works is turning drone technology on its head through its unique unmanned aerial systems implementations – building drones that have no externally moving parts, and that can switch mid-flight between horizontal and vertical ‘rocket-like’ modes of flight. ASW within its three years of incorporation has invested $350K in its R & D initiatives resulting in its current suite of products.
· Kognitiv Spark makes industrial-grade, secure and reliable remote support tools that leverage augmented reality to facilitate repair and maintenance. In working with the Royal Canada Navy on the roadmap to adoption of mixed reality technologies into the whole of the organization, helping scope the deployment and socialization of this technology over the course of the coming years.
· Global Spatial Technology Solutions Inc. (GSTS) designed and developed advanced global digital solutions that enhance safety, security, efficiency and environmental sustainability in the Maritimes. GSTS has secured contracts with the Canadian Space Agency, DRDC, Transport Canada and APEC in the development of a maritime domain awareness and planning tool to support Canadian and international needs.
· Serco Canada Inc. has proudly demonstrated exemplary gender and diversity excellence as the Department of National Defence’s site support services contractor at 5 Wing Goose Bay. Today, they are proud to declare a 40% Indigenous employment rate at 5 Wing Goose Bay and have awarded more than $15.6 million of business to homegrown Indigenous firms.
