Nova Scotia is becoming a Military-connected College. Nova Scotia is home to one of the most densely concentrated Military-connected populations in Canada, including 13,500+ Veterans and 8,000+ serving CAF members in Halifax Regional Municipality. This initiative aims to provide dedicated academic and social supports for currently serving CAF members, Veterans, Reservists, spouses and children, enrolled at all 17 NSCC campuses, as well as our eCampus. NSCC recognizes the unique challenges placed on our Military-connected learners. The college will work with each learner to explore individual credits for prior learning, offer social support, and will collaborate with other colleges on transfer of credit.
NSCC is one of three colleges that recently signed an MoU with Portage Community College (Alberta) and Loyalist Community College (Ontario), to better serve CAF members and to ease transfer of credit. NSCC is a partner with Helmets to Hardhats, a registered non-profit organization providing opportunities in the unionized construction industry for serving, transitioning and former military members. The college has also aligned itself with other external partners to help better serve our Military-connected population.
There are several streams of funding for Military-connected students to access. The college will work with Veterans to assist with tuition deferral for those veterans who are delayed in receiving their Veteran Affairs Canada Education and Training Benefit funding and can assist learners with other streams of funding as well.
NSCC also acknowledges the many skills that Veterans can bring to the workforce. Veterans who are looking for second careers are encouraged to explore job postings on the NSCC Careers site or retrain by seeking funding to complete one of our 140+ full time programs.
