Harbour Grace Ocean Industries is a full-service marine shipyard with over 200 years of continuous operations in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland and Labrador. Under new Canadian ownership , HGOI combines traditional maritime craftsmanship with modern manufacturing capabilities and strategic investment in infrastructure expansion.

HGOI serves the Atlantic fishing industry, aquaculture sector, offshore energy operations, and government marine requirements. While maintaining our heritage commitment to the commercial fishing fleet, HGOI is positioned for significant growth through federal shipbuilding programs, particularly the National Shipbuilding Strategy.

Current facility operations include commercial vessel construction, government vessel repair and refit, custom marine fabrication, and maintenance services. The planned 2026 fabrication facility expansion represents strategic preparation for federal naval vessel construction programs while enhancing capacity across all business lines.

Federal Engagement:
• Active consultation with Royal Canadian Navy regarding ORCA-class vessel construction under MWAV program
• Direct engagement with Public Services and Procurement Canada
• Historical vessel repair services for Canadian Coast Guard Atlantic operations
• Provincial and municipal government vessel construction and repair services

Marine Railway System: 330-ton capacity haul-out capability for vessels up to 150 feet. Planned expansion to 2,000-ton capacity to accommodate larger Coast Guard and naval vessels.

New Fabrication Facility (2026): 200′ x 80′ x 65′ construction hall providing 16,000 square feet of climate-controlled manufacturing space. Dual 15-ton gantry cranes, optimized material flow, and purpose-designed for naval vessel construction requirements.

Machine Shop: Full-service CNC machine shop for precision component manufacturing, vessel systems fabrication, and repair operations.

Waterfront Access: Deep-water berthing and vessel launching facilities with protected harbor location. Approximately 6 acres of engineered grounds and wharves with planned laydown expansion.

Site: ~6 acres of engineered waterfront property with expansion capacity for additional construction bays and support facilities.

Certifications:
  • ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification in progress (completion anticipated Q2 2026)
  • Controlled Goods Program (CGP) registration in process
  • Experience implementing operational systems aligned with ISO 31000 Risk Management, ISO 14001 Environmental Management, and OHSAS 18001-2007 occupational health/safety standards
  • Classification society experience: Lloyd's Register, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Bureau Veritas
  • Pursuing ABS certification for naval vessel construction standards
  • Transport Canada Marine Safety compliance
