What You Do

An Industrial Electrician performs some or all of the following duties:

  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical and electronic control systems and other related devices
  • Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records

What You Need

  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Excellent background in mathematics and the sciences
  • Ability to perform basic calculations and read blueprints
  • Ability to follow instructions and be comfortable working with tools
  • Good eyesight, colour vision, and hand- eye coordination
