Deepwater Atlas Sets Sail Powered By An AKA High-Reliability Power Plant

AKA achieved a big milestone last week as the first of two Deepwater drillships (the Deepwater Atlas) left Jurong Shipyard in Singapore for the Gulf of Mexico. It is the first-ever newbuild 8th generation drillship, and the first vessel to be able to support 20,000 psi drilling operations, operate in 12,000 feet of water and drill to a depth of 40,000 feet. We are proud to see another ship fitted with an AKA high-reliability power plant. The Deepwater Atlas is designed and equipped to optimize fuel consumption and lower emissions to support the industry’s commitment to a reduction in the carbon footprint.

Together with our partner Transocean, we are setting the standard for safety, dependability, emissions control, and fuel efficiency. The Deepwater Atlas is the sixth newbuild drilling vessel where Transocean has worked with AKA to increase reliability and efficiency and change industry standards. Since 2014, the companies have been working together closely to design and deliver world-leading technology for these types of vessels. The Deepwater Titan, the Atlas’ sister ship is currently being completed at Jurong Shipyard in Singapore.

AKA’s scope of supply includes the 11kV Switchboards, Drilling Switchboards, Energy storage systems, DC/DC Converters, Thruster / Drilling and General UPS systems, Advanced Generator Protection (AGP), Advanced Thruster Control and Protection (ATCAP), Braking Resistor Modules, Cement Pump process controllers for Halliburton, BOP UPS for NOV, Emergency incomers for Cummins.
