Atlantic Canada’s aerospace sector is one of the key drivers behind the economic momentum that the region is experiencing. On Prince Edward Island, the aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries are engines of the local economy, creating highly skilled employment and training opportunities, and attracting world-leading companies to the Island. That is why the Government of Canada is investing to help Tronosjet Maintenance Inc. scale up and reach new markets.
Earlier this week, Bobby Morrissey, Member of Parliament for Egmont, announced a total investment of $1,212,000 to Tronosjet Maintenance Inc through ACOA’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program for three projects that will support the expansion of operations in both Slemon Park and Charlottetown, and position the company for long-term growth.
The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA.
A repayable contribution of $975,000 will support a 2,400-square-foot expansion of the company’s manufacturing facility, as well as the addition of solar panels that will provide up to 75 percent of the facility’s electricity requirements. The project will also support the acquisition of state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. A repayable contribution of $187,000 will assist with the purchase of specialized aircraft tooling equipment. A non-repayable contribution of $50,000 will support the hiring of a dedicated quality assurance and control specialist.
This announcement further demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to support innovation, and position local economies for long-term growth by building on regional strengths.
“Atlantic Canada’s aerospace sector is a growing economic powerhouse with as many as 50 firms that employ approximately 4,000 people. By investing in projects like this one, we are building on this momentum to create a thriving and prosperous region that benefits everyone.”
– Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA.
“Tronos continues to push the limits of innovation right here in Western P.E.I. This funding will provide support as they expand and diversify into new competitive markets in the aerospace industry and bring highly skilled jobs to our region. We are proud to offer our continued support.”
– Bobby Morrissey, Member of Parliament for Egmont
“ACOA’s continued support allows Tronos to procure the specialized equipment required to attract new Regional Aircraft to the Island for maintenance and repair. Our continued investment in advanced manufacturing equipment, now complemented by a new sustainable energy source, allows us to stay at the cutting edge of Aerospace manufacturing technology. “
