UNB named second-best workplace for diversity in Canada

Published: juillet 18, 2022

The University of New Brunswick has been recognized as one of the best workplaces in the country for fostering a diverse and inclusive environment by Forbes Canada.

UNB placed second out of 150 employers on Forbes Canada’s Best Employers for Diversity list for 2022.

“As an institution committed to equity, diversity and inclusion, I could not be prouder that UNB placed second on Forbes Canada’s Best Employers for Diversity list,” says Dr. Paul J. Mazerolle, UNB’s president and vice-chancellor.

Forbes partnered with market research company Statista to identify the Canadian companies most dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion. The ranking measures the employers’ efforts to foster a diverse environment that encourages everyone to be their whole selves at work.

The list was compiled by surveying 10,000 Canadians working for businesses with at least 500 employees in Canada, with extra weight given to respondents from underrepresented groups. Respondents were asked to rate their employers on criteria such as age, gender, ethnicity, disability and sexual orientation equality, and general diversity.

The final list ranks the 150 employers that not only received the most recommendations but also boast the most diverse boards and executive ranks and the most proactive diversity and inclusion initiatives.

UNB was also named the second-best workplace in the country on Forbes annual list of Canada’s Best Employers (2022), as well as being featured as one of Canada’s Top Employers for 2022, and Atlantic Canada’s Top Employers in 2021.
